Fishing

Gull Lake is internationally known as one of the finest, most
interesting fishing lakes in Minnesota. Its waters have an
average depth of 60 feet, and its level is maintained by the Corps of
Engineers. It is regularly stocked with fish and hosts walleyes,
northern, bass, perch and sunnies.
With 41 miles of shoreline and 7 lakes in the chain, Gull Lake
offers a variety of fishing experiences: submerged bluffs, rock piles,
open water, cattails, sand bars, faster channels, submerged islands,
varied structures and bottom composition. If your luck is down
in Gull Lake, you'll find over 450 lakes within a 30-mile radius.
Guests at Bay Colony Resort receive a free 14-foot aluminum fishing
boat. They may bring their own boat and/or motor, or they may
rent a motor either directly from a marina, or from us. Guests
may tie up to our two 64-foot docks. A new concrete launch ramp
with parking space is just one block away, (so our guests get into the
water quickly), and we have a boat trailer parking area on the resort.
Guests must remove their boats each night from our docks, or promptly
during daytime if the wind rises, and either beach them or trailer
them. Strong winds can arise quickly, causing 3-4 foot waves
that can damage boats and docks.
Bait and tackle shops are within a few minutes (including the famous
Marv Koep's with its array of tackle and electronic gear). Don't
forget to bring your life jackets, but if you do, we have a few we can
lend out. Marine gas is available at any of the marinas on the
lake, or at nearby gas stations, and we carry a small amount of gas
for emergency use.
When you return with your great catch, you'll find our fish cleaning
house handy because it's open 24 hours and features a freezer for
entrails.
You won't find better fishing anywhere. Guests have even
caught walleyes off our docks!
