About our Beach & Lake

Our
resort fronts on Gull Lake, famous as one of the two finest lakes in
Minnesota, with an average depth of 60 feet, forty one miles of
shoreline and part of a chain of seven connected lakes. Its
scenery varies from cliffs and forests to palatial homes, sandy
beaches and boat-in restaurants. With coves and bays, sandbars
and rock piles, it offers the varied bottom structure that
accomplished fishermen find irresistible, as well as wide open,
protected waters that recreational boaters love for skiing and tubing.
Bay Colony Resort is on that portion of Gull Lake known as the "Gold
Coast", which is a small portion of Gull Lake's eastern shore on
which the Ice Age deposited a deep layer of sugar sand, blessing us
with a clean beach free of weeds and mud, and clear swimming water on
a clean sandy bottom with no sudden drop-offs. We are centered
in a bay known as Hole-In-The-Day Bay which was named after an Indian
chief of the 1840's whose tribe asked him why the sky had suddenly
gone dark (it was a solar eclipse) and he said it was probably "a
hole in the day". He lives on in the history books as Chief
Hole-In-The-Day.
